Waiting on the LORD in a Fast-Paced World
(31) but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)
Hello Readers, hope all’s well. Time for another post.
Today’s post is inspired by a sermon from a missionary who came to my church recently. He does missionary work in rural Colombia, and came to tell us about that. He showed pictures of the church they built, some of the activities they do, and so on. It was a good presentation. God bless missionaries for what they do!!
But he also told us a few things about life in rural Colombia. He told us that when you go to a medical center, instead of waiting up to an hour for your appointment, you might have to wait as long as five hours!! (I guess this was due to a lack of doctors there or something like that.) While he was suffering this terrible wait, he remembered what the Bible says about waiting on the LORD. And there are quite a few verses to choose from!! The Bible actually has a lot to say about waiting on the LORD.
And in today’s fast-paced society, it’s a message we all need to hear. Especially me, Readers. I get anxious and have problems waiting on the LORD, so I was very pleased to hear this missionary’s message. It was something I needed to hear. Maybe some of You need to hear it too. I’m no expert at waiting on the LORD, but in writing about it today I hope I’ll learn something myself!!
New Strength
There are many, many, many verses in the Bible about waiting for the LORD. If you Google “wait for the LORD,” you’ll see what I mean. You can take your pick from dozens of verses!! But the most well-known verse may be Psalms 27:14 (I’m only guessing).
(14) Wait for the Lord;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the Lord!Psalms 27:14 (ESV)
But the verse that the missionary picked out was Isaiah 40:31. Isaiah 40:31 adds another element, saying that those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will have new strength.
